F-M bowlers earn sweep of Oswego; ESM falls to Baldwinsville, C-NS

first_imgEach of the Fayetteville-Manlius bowling teams found success in their respective Dec. 20 matches against the Oswego Buccaneers at Green Lakes Bowl.Kevin Winschel again led the boys Hornets in its 2-1 win, closing with a 246 game after games of 206 and 203 to get a three-game total of 655.John Jeffery earned a 545 series, just ahead of the 542 set from Xavier Greene. Oswego lost despite a 682 series from Eric Carson and a 586 series from Jack Warren. Meanwhile, the F-M girls won 3-0 over Oswego to improve to 3-2 on the season, with Kendra Elliott getting off to a quick start, shooting a season-best 245 game on her way to a 560 series.Shelby Miner’s 176 kicked off a 500 series, with Lydia Chase managing a 478 series. Samantha Estock (414 series) and Hannah Smith (403 series) trailed them as Alyssa Morley paced the Bucs with a 438 series.East Syracuse Minoa competed last Monday at Baldwinsville, where the boys Spartans picked up a point, yet still could not quite catch the Bees in a 2-1 defeat. At B’ville Sports Bowl, Tyler Talarico led ESM with a 606 series (215 high game), while Brett Smith and Kobie Gibson had matching three-game totals of 596.John Messina, with a 557 series, edged out the 554 from Ryan Buffum that started with a 220 game, but the Bees got a 704 series from Tanner Rozcyzko, a 651 series from Dylan Williams and a 638 series from Dylan Love.The ESM girls lost 3-0 to B’ville, with America Carhart picking up a 521 series, but no one else on the Spartans close to her total as the Bees had Amelia Ponto shoot a 647 series with three 200-plus games, helped by series of 567 and 564 from sisters Jenna and Julia Spiech.Before this, each of the area’s high school bowling teams had various matches to fit in last week as the holiday break loomed.F-M challenged Fulton Dec. 17 at Lakeview Lanes, and the boys Hornets put up a great effort on the boys side, though it could not quite topple the Red Raiders in a 2-1 decision.With games of 221, 254 and 245, Winschel dazzled again for F-M, finishing with a 720 series as Aidan Koss started with a 215, finished with a 235 and got a 648 set.Fulton countered with greater depth in its lineup. Mitch Donaldson led with a 628 series (high game 233), while Owen Sheldon had a 602 set. Sean Flynn (568 series) and Mark Smith (548 series) were close behind.Meanwhile, in the girls match, F-M could not get a point from Fulton in a 3-0 defeat. Miner started with a 200 in her 503 series and Chase closed with a 187 in her 502 set. The Red Raiders had four series of 530 or better, led by Alexis Ingersoll, who had a three-game total of 616.ESM had its own close boys match with Cicero-North Syracuse at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, but unlike F-M the Spartans did finish on top over the Northstars 2-1.Chris Bayly started with games of 243 and 258 on his way to a 692 series. Talarico, shooting a three-game total of 594, was just ahead of Smith’s 589 series and Buffum’s 569 set. C-NS got a 671 series from Tyler Dottolo and a 638 series from J.J. O’Connell.Despite Carhart’s 202, 201 and 201 games in a 604 series, the ESM girls lost, 3-0, to C-NS, who had a 544 series from Katie Cloonan and a 519 series from Jessaia McGriff. Olivia Nissen gave ESM a three-game total of 426.Only Christian Brothers Academy had a match on Dec. 16, taking on the Chittenango Bears at Strike-N-Spare Lanes and prevailing 3-0 on the girls side to improve its record to 4-1.Eliana Occhino had a strong 539 series for the Brothers that included games of 176, 181 and 182.
