UPDATE Silver Lake Will Likely Be OK To Swim In Soon Latest

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Silver Lake has been closed for swimming for the past 16 days after the Town’s Health Department’s routine testing discovered high bacteria levels (E Coli) in the water.“Although [this Tuesday’s results] came back low — right was 10 E.Coli/100 ml AND center was 40 E.Coli/100 ml — the geometric mean — which is the average of the last 5 samples — is still too high,” Health Director Shelly Newhouse tells Wilmington Apple. The beach will be closed for swimming if the bacteria test exceeds a geometric mean of 126 E.Coli/100 ml in the last 5 consecutive samples. The Board of Health took water samples again on Thursday and hopes the results, which should be available on Friday, will lower the geometric mean to under 126 E.Coli/100 ml, which would allow swimming to resume.Once swimming is permitted again, beachgoers should note that lifeguards will no longer be on duty as the town’s beach season officially wrapped on Sunday, August 11.Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook.
