Drive to make all cops tops

The best reward a cop can get is when communities work with the police to aid an arrest.”According to Andrew Faull, senior ISS researcher, studies have found that the public’s perception of police is not based on how effective they are in tackling crime, but rather how they treat civilians discourteously, abusively or with unnecessary force.Although the recently released crime statistics show that violent criminal acts are on the decline, police still need to work on their treatment of the public to bolster their reputation.Faull said: “What police must realise is that annual announcements of declining crime will only win police momentary legitimacy, what is far more important is that every encounter between a police official and a member of the public is based on procedural justice, fairness, and courtesy.”last_img read more

New Octopus Hair Claw Clip Butterfly Bull Dog Design Plastic Fast Shipping – with flat bottom is perfect.

first_imgModest but looks like it’ll be extremely comfy.Good high quality clips, but significantly more compact than i’d anticipated. I was not misled by the vendor just a bit upset that the clips have been really compact.Nice matt complete and extra beautiful than most. Awesome matt end and extra desirable than most.Smaller than average but very strong, good clipI discovered octopus clips a year ago and love them as they fit my long wild curly hair Very happy customer! These little things are super strong and have lasted me quite a while nowThis clip broke pretty much immediately after it arrivedFine hair and hair clips Lesser than common but incredibly sturdy, superior clip. Is scaled-down than the regular sizing octopus clip so is difficult applying it in my hair as it’s halfway down my again. It only just holds it if i dig it into my scalp.I would advocate this for someone with shoulder length hair or for a longer period very skinny hair. Is a superior, effectively built sturdy clip. I just want a more substantial a single to plonk into my hair with simplicity.Sturdy clips retains my thick hair in spot all day. Particularly what i was hunting for.Features of New Octopus Hair Claw Clip Butterfly Bull Dog Design Plastic Fast ShippingNew Octopus Hair Claw Bull Dog Design ClipAvailable in 3 Different Colours Black, Brown and Dark BrownPlasticSize : 55 mm long 50 mm wide 40 mm heightBeautiful Colour Ideal for Daily and occasional use Ideal for outdoor activitiesGood QualityThis clip broke quite much right away just after it arrived. This clip broke rather much instantly soon after it arrived. I do not significantly feel it is really excellent worth for funds. It is a amazing design in comparison to my many others. This is a stunning hair claw but it is also significant for use by me who has missing a lot of her hair to aged age. I wish i could use it truly. It is a excellent design in comparison to my others.I found out octopus clips a yr in the past and like them as they in good shape my lengthy wild curly hair. I learned octopus clips a year ago and appreciate them as they healthy my long wild curly hair in them, and you should not break very easily, which i identified the common straight butterfly clips did. These ones are the modest edition, and i truly acquired them by blunder, but they are even better. One particular of these nevertheless suits all my hair in, but they never slip off, like the larger kinds sometimes did, and i can wear them all day without the need of ever obtaining to rearrange my hair (any anybody with curly hair will know that this is a incredibly great point).I criticised the more substantial versions of this but this one isn’t going to slip virtually so significantly. As my hair is fantastic, that will make this 1, okay. With flat bottom is great. . Have been seeking for theses for ages in shops -the size & shape ,with flat base is excellent. It was wonderful but i have thick hair and it did not actually keep it up.This was just what i was wanting for. I am making an attempt to grow my hair out and it only just matches into a silly pony tail, it seems to be a minimal sad sticking out the back again of my head. Cue the octopus claw, it sits nicely with or without having a hairband and leaves me with a neat hair do. It is excellent quality and i suspect it will past. I you should not feel it would fit pretty thick hair as it is rather modest. The octopus claw clip satisfied my demands.Excellent good quality, but stiff in its grip. Fantastic high-quality, but rigid in its grip. It’s popped out of my palms several periods when making an attempt to place it in my hair. These minimal issues are super powerful and have lasted me quite a although now. These small items are super potent and have lasted me really a even though now. I you should not like clips that are weak at the hinge, flimsy in material, and usually are not capable to maintain considerably hair (i have a good deal and they’re thick, but on the thinner facet of thick – am i making feeling?). So these are good for the cost they are offered at, and have been precisely what i was wanting for.Hope you guys equally take pleasure in working with them if you come to a decision to invest in them. They have been a very good obtain for me.last_img read more

Grazing corn residue

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Corn residue left over from harvesting can make an excellent source of supplemental feed for livestock, according to a forage expert from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. This is especially true for producers who are facing lower hay crop inventories thanks to the excessive rains that impacted the region during the beginning of the growing season this year, said Rory Lewandowski, agriculture and natural resources educator for the college’s outreach arm, Ohio State University Extension.Grazing cows on harvested corn acres within the first 30 to 60 days after harvesting can be a great way for producers to stretch their feed supplies, he said.“This was a tough forage year for many livestock producers,” Lewandowski said. “Many producers are finding that they didn’t get enough hay harvested with all the rain that impacted the crops during the earlier part of the growing season.”For growers looking for a way to extend their forage supplies, grazing corn residue may be one less-expensive option, he said.“For some folks that may be scrambling for alternatives, such as buying extra hay or feeding more grain to their livestock, grazing corn residue is a good option,” he said. “Using temporary fencing allows this as an inexpensive option for many producers.”Based on calculations by Rick Rasby, a beef specialist at the University of Nebraska, for every bushel of corn there are about 45 pounds of residue on a dry matter (DM) basis, Lewandowski said. And for every bushel of corn there are about 16 pounds of husks and leaves on a dry matter basis, he said.“Using those figures, a 170 bushels per acre corn crop will leave 7,650 pounds of dry matter of total residue, with the husks and leaves accounting for about 2,720 pounds of that total,” he said. “And typical harvest leaves about one bushel per acre of corn grain that the animals can graze.”Cows in mid-gestation and ewes in the middle trimester or earlier of gestation typically do well with grazing corn residue, Lewandowski said.last_img read more

How Google Can Combat Content Farms

first_imgA Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#Analysis#NYT#web 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market In my recent post about the rise of content farms like Demand Media and the current incarnation of AOL, I posited that Google (and search in general) risks becoming less relevant as the Web gets drowned in lesser quality content. This is due to the scale at which these content farms are operating at – Demand Media alone pumps out 4,000 new pieces of content every day. The solution is of course for Google and other search engines to find better ways to surface quality content, whether that be from traditional news media, blogs or even Demand Media (not all of its content is poor quality). So how can Google evolve to identify quality content better?Quality! Pah, Does Google Need to Bother?Perhaps we should first answer the question: why should Google be worried about the quality issue? After all, it has a virtual monopoly on the search market. The obvious and PR answer is that Google wants to provide the best search results possible for its users. But there is another big reason why Google needs to do something. So-called “quality” content providers are already well advanced in routing around Google, or at least making them less relevant. As I wrote yesterday, Reuters is onto something with its subscription business model. According to Chris Ahearn, President of Media at Thomson Reuters, the company already makes the “vast majority of its revenues” from subscription-based business models targeted to “vertical and niche markets.” Reuters also provides services as well as just content. Bloomberg is another leading media company finding success with this strategy. The subscription model is making inroads, because the users themselves are flocking to it. A prime example comes from VC Paul Kedrosky, who became frustrated after doing various Google searches for “dishwasher reviews” and getting unsatisfactory results. He says that this has made him “more willing to pay for things” – in that case a Consumer Reports review of dishwashers. As Kedrosky archly noted, “the opportunity cost of continuing to try to sort through the info-crap in Google results was simply too high.”What Google Can DoGoogle surely knows that quality (or lack thereof) in its index is a problem. As one part of the solution, Google is currently experimenting with real-time search results from social media sites like Twitter, MySpace and even Facebook. The theory is that users are more likely to get timely, relevant results by tapping into their social network. That’s all well and good, but real-time search is unlikely to give you better results on the dishwasher search and other topic-focused search queries. So what else can Google do to identify and surface quality material? Some readers in Sunday’s post (Tadhg, Charles Coxhead and others) argued that Google’s current algorithm accounts for quality well enough, through the link economy. But many others thought that Google must improve its ranking of quality. Here were some of our readers’ suggestions:Neutralize the link dilution; A.J. Kohn, who further wrote that “the introduction of SearchWiki, their measurement of short-clicks versus long-clicks, the new domain/brand SERP listing, snippet links, and use of breadcrumbs all point to a gathering movement to help determine quality without such a reliance on an ever diluted link ecosystem.”Do a better job ranking authority; for more on this read Clay Shirky’s post on “Algorithmic Authority.”Introduce a user rating system; Tony Masinelli.Leverage sharing networks to determine where the quality is; Alex Kessinger.Special curation and algorithms on top of that; William Mougayar, whose company Eqentia does precisely that. p2p recommendation (i.e. filtering through your peers); Nick Taylor.Capture engagement data; Mark Littlewood.Give special weightings to categories of content, e.g. content farms, social media bookmarks blogs and Twitter; Aaron Savage.Use anti-spam type software to identify content that makes too much use of keywords; Barry.Track reputation against authors rather than URLs – a ‘PageRank for People’; Marshall Clark. These are all great ideas. Google is almost certainly already doing at least some of these things already, as would other search companies. Will this lead to an improvement in 2010? John Battelle is even expecting a “major breakthrough” in search in 2010. I hope he’s right. One thing is for sure, Google will need to do more in 2010 if it’s to stay ahead of the content farms and continue to surface quality content for its millions of users. Puppet Labs, Adobe Release Open Source Puppet Code for Managing Hadoop

first_imgaudrey watters Tags:#Announcements#cloud Related Posts Puppet Labs, the commercial sponsor of the open source server configuration framework Puppet, announced today that Adobe has agreed to publish their Puppet modules for managing Hadoop. The code will be freely available for download via the Puppet Forge.Puppet is an open source data center automation and configuration management framework that provides system administrators with a platform that allows for consistent and flexible systems management. Puppet takes care of the “heavy lifting” with managing Hadoop, says Christian Ivascu, a computer scientist at Adobe. Rather than manual configuration, Puppet “figures out what nodes need to be upgraded, pushes the new archives, changes configuration files and restarts services.”“We’re pleased with Adobe’s commitment to the project and that they see the value of sharing their work with the rest of the Puppet community,” says Luke Kanies, founder and CEO of Puppet Labs and the creator of Puppet. As Kanies notes, the open source project means that companies can “share the solution with other companies,” saving development costs and sharing developer expertise.Puppet is in use in multiple organizations and industries, including the New York Stock Exchange, Bank of America, and Google. World Para Badminton Championships Title a Dream Come True: Manasi Joshi

Follow News18.com on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, TikTok and on YouTube, and stay in the know with what’s happening in the world around you – in real time. Basel: It was a dream come true moment for India’s para badminton star Manasi Joshi when she clinched her first World Championships crown, overcoming experienced compatriot Parul Parmer in the women’s singles SL3 final here on Saturday.Having faced three-time world champion Parmer several times this year and always finishing on the losing side, Joshi wasn’t the favourite going into the final. However, she beat the odds by keeping her calm and by unleasing some sharp strokes to defeat Parmer 21-12, 21-7 for the first time in her fledgling career. Joshi, who lost her left leg in an accident in 2011, made a slow start and was even 2-7 down in the opening game, but raced ahead owing to better fitness. In the second game, she was ahead from the start and went on to pick up 9 consecutive points enroute the gold.An elated Joshi later admitted that her strenuous training at the Pullela Gopichand Academy recently did wonders to her campaign.”I have trained extremely hard…training three sessions a day. The focus was on my fitness, so I also lost some weight and gained more muscle. I spent more time in the gym, working six sessions a week. “I also put a lot of effort to improve my strokes and played practice matches everyday at the Academy. I believe the improvements are already showing,” the 30-year-old told the Paralympic Committee of India.”I’ve been playing para badminton since 2015. Winning medal at the worlds is always a dream come true,” she said.Joshi added that she now has a new walking prosthesis socket. “The old one which I was using for the last five years was making me slow during workouts.”Joshi, who had looked up to German tennis legend Steffi Graf growing up, now wants to “play more singles matches at other events, including the Asian Championships”.”I hope our event is included as para sports in the next edition of Paralympic Games,” she said. With 14 events included at the Paralympics, the women’s singles SL3 category is not part of the Tokyo 2020 Games. She is keeping her fingers crossed though.Praising Joshi’s improved show, India coach Gaurav Khanna said that it’s the beginning of a new era.”Parul (Parmer) was leading the show for many years. No doubt she plays with a lot of zeal, determination and willpower, but she is 46 years old and that makes a difference when you are up against a younger player. “I am sure she will make a comeback. Having said that, Manasi (Joshi) has improved over the years. And she is much more mature as a player now. I am very happy for her. She produced a splendid performance,” Khanna told PCI.Besides Joshi, Pramod Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar were the other gold medallists on Saturday as they came from a game down to defeat compatriots Nitesh Kumar and Tarun Dhillon 14-21, 21-15, 21-16 in the men’s doubles SL3-4 category final.World No. 1 Bhagat is in fact in line for a double crown as he is scheduled to take on second seed Daniel Bethell of England in the men’s singles SL3 final on Sunday. The Odisha-born overcame his partner Sarkar, a silver medallist in 2017 worlds, 21-18, 21-16 in the semi-final.In men’s singles SL4 final, two-time champion Dhillon will take on top seed Lucas Mazur of France. In other matches, third seeds Krishna Nagar and Raja Magotra settled for silver after going down 15-21, 21-17, 18-21 against top seeds Man Kai Chu and Chun Yim Wong of Chinese Taipei in a thrilling men’s doubles SS6 category final that lasted 55 minutes.India are assured of 12 medals and have already clinched two gold, three silver and five bronze medals. “I hope we can add two more gold medals to our tally,” Khanna added. last_img read more

Chevy Put Together a Baseball Fan’s Dream Weekend, and We Lived It

first_imgAny baseball fan that doesn’t want to live a life full of regret would jump at the chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. If that bucket list experience isn’t enough, how about accommodations at one of Scottsdale, Arizona’s trendiest hotels and transportation to/from Los Angeles?I imagine winning the lottery feels a bit like getting a call from Chevrolet with a pitch for the aforementioned agenda. The word “yes” couldn’t form in my mouth fast enough, and before I knew it, MLB Spring Training had begun. But why me, and why Chevy? Here’s the scoop:Since 2006, Chevy and its dealers have supported youth softball and baseball around the country, donating more than 135,000 equipment kits, renovating 9,400 parks, and impacting 6.7 million boys and girls. Though Chevrolet has worked with the MLB for years through its Youth Baseball initiative, it is strengthening its relationship by sponsoring Play Ball — a collaboration between MLB, USA Baseball, and USA Softball.Chevy’s service to the community and longstanding partnership with the MLB doesn’t explain why I won the baseball lottery, but I’ll pretend that this review of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu (my automotive companion for the 700-mile round-trip sojourn from LA to Scottsdale) is important enough to warrant the honor.Fantasies aside, it’s difficult to imagine a more comfortable vehicle for the six-hour road trip than Chevy’s new Malibu Premier. With high quality hide lining just about every interior surface, heated and ventilated seats, a ridiculously quiet cabin, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, the Malibu is a rolling luxury suite. With so many miles to cover, it’s fortunate that the Malibu is frugal, too. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder may churn up an impressive 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, but it also returns 33 mpg on the highway. The Malibu needs just a single tank of fuel to teleport me to the Saguaro Hotel, a vibrant oasis within Scottsdale’s Old Town sector. Surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee spots, the Saguaro is an ideal place to crash between Spring Training games. With my first game still hours away, I take a minute to relax in the heated pool, chatting with fellow guests about our weekend plans. Like myself, many are here for Major League fun, but others simply need an escape. Scottsdale’s dry heat and teeming nightlife is the perfect recipe for a vacation. Before my moment of truth on Sunday, Chevy rounded up tickets to a Dodger v. White Sox game on Saturday. With temperatures in the upper 90’s, I’m grateful for the Malibu’s remote start system, which turns on the air conditioning and cools the vehicle before I set off for the stadium. Once inside the park, I find my way to some killer seats behind home base, lather up with sunscreen, and watch the Dodgers pummel the Sox 10-2 (sorry Chicago fans).Back at the hotel, I have just enough energy to peel off my clothes and climb into bed. What feels like moments later, my alarm is blaring. It’s 8AM on Sunday and I’m due at the Angels’ field in two hours. There’s just enough time for a java run, so I high tail it to Regroup Coffee + Bicycles for a pour-over.Slowly coming to life, I take stock of the Malibu’s exterior design. At the front, the midsize sedan takes inspiration from the sharply styled Camaro. LED daytime running lights and a two-piece grille grab appropriate attention. In profile, the Malibu’s raked roofline mimics a four-door coupe, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and a defined character line give the car an athletic stance. At the rear, an integrated lip spoiler and conservative taillight designs maintain the Malibu’s clean exterior.Enough fawning, it’s time to get down to business. In short order, I’ve made it to the stadium and am ushered down to the field. My nerves are going ballistic as I shake hands with Angels’ catcher Tony Sanchez. As I’m announced, “automotive enthusiast and writer, Miles Branman,” I walk to the mound. Struggling to take in the joy and pressure of the moment, I almost miss my cue “okay, Miles, let’s play ball!” I enter the wind-up, still unsure of how hard I want to throw the ball. As the ball parts from my hand, I’ve settled on a light pace. For what seems like an eternity, the ball makes its way 60 feet to the catcher’s glove. It’s no strike, but Sanchez scoops up the low pitch easily enough. I let out an immense sigh of relief, assured that I won’t make it on Sports Center tonight. Thanks to Chevy and the MLB, I may have the best “two truths and a lie” icebreaker imaginable – with the pictures to prove it! 9 Best Spirits For Spiked Apple Cider An Introduction to the Fine Sport of Bouldering Editors’ Recommendations The Maserati Quattroporte: Luxury You Can Sort of Almost Imagine Affording All 21 Six Flags Parks in the U.S., Ranked Icons of America: Taking a Corvette Road Trip Along Route 66last_img read more
