Calls for Donegal to go poster-free this election season

first_imgA campaign with the aim of going poster-free during the forthcoming elections across the country has been launched by a Donegal councillor. Independent councillor Seamus Maguire co-started the campaign alongside with David Weitbrecht of Zerowaste.ie to reduce the use of plastic in the county. In 2014, 2038 candidates ran for 750 seats erecting an estimated 600,000+ posters, covering the equivalent area of 23 Croke Parks. Since the campaign launched, 101 towns have gone poster free including Donegal Town and Glenties.Cllr Maguire said: “Less than 20 days ago, a national campaign PosterFree.ie was launched, encouraging all candidates to go poster free, successfully securing 101 poster free areas.“This number equates to over 11% of 2018 Tidy Town entrants. PosterFree.ie is now calling for a national voluntary ban to ensure a poster free election. It is clear that both the environment and the electorate want a poster free election.” Calls for Donegal to go poster-free this election season was last modified: March 10th, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Puppet Labs, Adobe Release Open Source Puppet Code for Managing Hadoop

first_imgaudrey watters Tags:#Announcements#cloud Related Posts Puppet Labs, the commercial sponsor of the open source server configuration framework Puppet, announced today that Adobe has agreed to publish their Puppet modules for managing Hadoop. The code will be freely available for download via the Puppet Forge.Puppet is an open source data center automation and configuration management framework that provides system administrators with a platform that allows for consistent and flexible systems management. Puppet takes care of the “heavy lifting” with managing Hadoop, says Christian Ivascu, a computer scientist at Adobe. Rather than manual configuration, Puppet “figures out what nodes need to be upgraded, pushes the new archives, changes configuration files and restarts services.”“We’re pleased with Adobe’s commitment to the project and that they see the value of sharing their work with the rest of the Puppet community,” says Luke Kanies, founder and CEO of Puppet Labs and the creator of Puppet. As Kanies notes, the open source project means that companies can “share the solution with other companies,” saving development costs and sharing developer expertise.Puppet is in use in multiple organizations and industries, including the New York Stock Exchange, Bank of America, and Google. Founded in 2005, Puppet Labs is based in Portland, Oregon. We trained really hard in preparation but it has been an outstanding preparation,” Borg said.“They are such a great side New South Wales, they are well-drilled, well-coached and the series was tight and it was basically one try in it at the end, so it is an incredible achievement.”New South Wales opened the scoring inside 30 seconds when Daniel Stone scored the first of his three touchdowns. As thunder roared around the ground and the rain closed in, both teams were not showing the attacking flare that dominated the second game when there were 15 touchdowns scored in the opening half.Pryde scored Queensland’s first to level the scores, and both teams went back and forth until half-time.The home side levelled the scores at 3-3 right on the siren for the break.Queensland hit the lead for the first time through Emma Haines but New South Wales soon scored a hat-trick of touchdowns to hit the front 6-4.New South Wales maintained their two-touchdown margin and looked set on claiming another division title. But Jayden Benbow scored for Queensland and it was followed by Haines’ second touchdown right on full-time to level the scores. Both sides had cracks in the drop-off but it was the maroons who found space and Pryde slipped through to score for his most important touchdown of his career.last_img read more

Photo: Someone Left An Extremely NSFW Message On The 2014 Results Page Of The ACC Media Guide

first_imgNC State 2014 football schedule featuring a NSFW message.Twitter/@MrsTylerKSR Being an intern isn’t always fun. Occasionally, you’ll get stuck typing up menial things, like the 2014 schedules and results for the ACC’s 14 member schools. As frustrating and tedious as that may get, dropping an F-bomb and forgetting to deleting it, and then having that print out in every edition of the guide being given out at ACC media days probably isn’t the best course of action. Or, perhaps they’re not a fan of Wake Forest’s poor season? The Clawfense is a work in progress, give it time sir!Part of me laughed, part died, when I saw three-word “error” on page 145 in ACC FB media guide unveiled today. Repair Work on Robin’s Bay Bridge Completed

first_img Repair work on the Robin’s Bay bridge in St. Mary has been completed. The project was implemented by the National Works Agency (NWA).The three-month project, which was financed by the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing at a cost of $33 million, entailed repairs to the roadway and approach in the immediate vicinity of the bridge, and construction of three box culverts to facilitate easy flow off of water that accumulates, particularly when it rains. The repairs, which were carried out by the firm, Dwight’s Construction Limited,  became necessary after the structure, which is parallel to the sea’s shoreline, was damaged during Hurricane Sandy’s passage in October 2012.State Minister in the Ministry, Hon. Richard Azan, who along with representatives of the NWA and the contractor, visited the project site on July 17, expressed satisfaction at the work undertaken.“The team did an excellent job. The culverts are much bigger and water will flow easier under the bridge. The job was completed within budget and on time,” he said.Regarding repairs to the entire Robin’s Bay corridor, which has eroded, Mr. Azan said Minister without Portfolio in the Transport, Works and Housing Ministry, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, has had discussions with him and the Chief Executive Officer of the NWA, Mr. E.G. Hunter, and  they took the decision to do an inspection (on July 17).Mr. Azan said he was unable to give a commitment when repairs would be effected, pointing out that this is contingent on the availability of resources. “We have seen the need, but everything (depends on us identifying) funding,” he indicated. The three-month project costs $33 million Story Highlightscenter_img Repair work on the Robin’s Bay bridge in St. Mary has been completedlast_img read more
